POLY – POLYBOND UNIVERSAL Polybond Cement Additive
بوليبوند

POLYBOND UNIVERSAL is a PVA (polyvinyl acetate) adhesive, sealer and cement additive made in England by Polybond Ltd and supplied in Lebanon by Rousse. Mixed with water in different ratios it bonds new concrete, plaster and render to old surfaces without hacking, makes cement mixes tougher, dust-free and more resistant to damp, and primes and seals porous surfaces before painting. It is water-based, non-flammable and almost odourless.

How to use it

1. Preparation: surfaces must be clean, sound and free of grease, oil and loose material. Prime all porous surfaces with Polybond 1 + 5 water, brushed well in, and let it dry. Treat iron and steel with a rust-inhibiting primer first.
2. Bonding new concrete to old: no hacking needed. Prime with Polybond 1 + 5 and let it dry, brush on a second coat at 1 + 3, and while it is still tacky lay the new concrete or render.
3. Repairing floors and stairs: seal with 1 + 5 and let dry, then mix sand and cement into a workable mass with Polybond 1 + 3 and trowel on; repairs can go down to a feather edge.
4. Plastering over glazed or painted surfaces: mix 2 parts sharp sand and 1 part cement, wet with Polybond 1 + 2, apply as a slurry, score, let dry 24 hours, then plaster or render.
5. In concrete and renders: add 1.5 to 10 litres of Polybond per 50 kg bag of cement (about 6 litres for a very strong floor, never more than 10), adding it to the dry mix before the gauging water; or replace the gauging water with Polybond 1 + 3 to 1 + 5.
6. Fixing tiles: prime wall and tile backs with 1 + 5, then stick tiles with cement mixed with Polybond 1 + 3, max 6 mm thick.
7. Dust-proofing floors: one or two coats of Polybond 1 + 5.
8. Wood: apply Polybond 1 + 1 to both surfaces, let it get tacky and join with moderate pressure; do not over-clamp.

Apply by brush, roller, spray, squeegee or soft broom and wash tools with clean water straight after use.

Specifications

Limits: not for areas under constant water (pools, ponds, tanks), and it does not bond PVC, ABS, thin rubber, polyethylene or polypropylene. Surfaces must be sound and free of oil and grease.

FAQ

How much Polybond do I put in cement?
Between 1.5 and 10 litres per 50 kg bag depending on the strength you need; about 6 litres per bag (Polybond 1+3 instead of plain water) gives a very strong, flexible floor. Do not exceed 10 litres per bag.

Do I still need to hack (chip) the old surface?
No. A primer coat of Polybond 1+5, then a tacky coat at 1+3, gives the key for new concrete, plaster or render.

Can I use it for a pool or a water tank?
No. Mortars with Polybond resist damp well but it should not be used where water is permanent. For tanks and pools use a waterproofing system such as ELASTOTET.

What do people call it in Lebanon?
Usually Polybond, bolibond or PVA, sometimes ghira bayda (white glue); in Arabic بوليبوند.

قديش بحط بوليبوند بالباطون؟
بين ١٫٥ و١٠ ليتر لكل كيس ترابة ٥٠ كلغ حسب القوة يلي بدك ياها؛ حوالي ٦ ليتر بالكيس (بوليبوند ١ + ٣ مي بدل المي العادية) بيعطي أرضية قوية ومرنة كتير. ما تزيد عن ١٠ ليتر بالكيس.

لازم نقّر الحيط القديم؟
لأ. وجه أوّل بوليبوند ١ + ٥ مي، وبعدين وجه ١ + ٣ ولما يصير يلزّق بتحط الباطون أو الورقة الجديدة.

بينفع للمسابح وخزانات المي؟
لأ. الخلطة مع بوليبوند بتقاوم الرطوبة بس مش للمحلات يلي فيها مي دايماً. للخزانات والمسابح استعمل عازل متل ELASTOTET.
