POLYWOOD by POLYBOND UNIVERSAL is a professional solvent-based polyurethane exterior wood varnish, made in the UK and supplied in Lebanon by Rousse. Based on a polyurethane alkyd resin, it enhances the natural look of wood with a tough, durable film that resists scuffs and abrasion. The non-yellowing formula is water repellent and protects wood from UV damage, and it dries faster than conventional varnishes.
Advantages
- Rapid drying: several coats can go on in a single day, and treated floors can be walked on within hours
- Hard-wearing yet flexible, for high-traffic areas such as wood decking, cork floors and decorative cork wall tiles
- Water resistant and resists blanching when wet: exterior wood, small boats and caravans
- Smooth satin look with a skid-resistant surface on floors
- Cost-effective: coat cork tiles on site instead of buying pre-coated ones, sealing the seams at the same time
Where to use it
- Exterior and interior wood: doors, windows, pergolas, fences, garden furniture and panelling
- Hardwood, softwood and marine ply; yacht and boat woodwork
- Timber doors, panels and floors; as a finishing coat over emulsion paint or wallpaper for a rich glazed effect (test wallpaper first)
- Two coats waterproof porous stone, concrete and brickwork
- Furniture and DIY wood projects, replacing traditional varnishes, oils or waxes
- Domestic and industrial use
How to apply
- Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dust and loose or flaking material.
- On bare wood, seal with a first coat thinned with about 10% universal thinners.
- Apply by brush or roller as supplied (add about 10% thinners for spraying). Several thin coats are better than one thick coat; rub down lightly between coats with fine paper (grade 400 or finer).
- Recoat after 16–24 hours. Do not leave brushes or rollers standing in air for more than a few minutes; clean tools with gun wash. Do not apply over anti-fouling, and use plastic laminate rather than varnish on benches and tabletops.
