ELASTOTET ELASTOSEAL PU is a one-component polyurethane joint sealant in 310 ml cartridges, made in Greece and supplied in Lebanon by Rousse. It cures with air humidity into a tough, elastic seal that bonds to concrete, glass, steel, wood, anodised aluminium, tiles and PVC, resists UV and weather, and can be painted.

Two grades: ELASTOSEAL PU 25 LM, soft and low modulus for expansion and movement joints (grey, white, beige, terracotta), and ELASTOSEAL PU 50 FC, harder and faster curing for hard-wearing joints (black, white). For larger jobs the same sealants come in 600 ml sausages.

Where to use it

• Expansion and settlement joints in concrete floors, walls and slabs
• Joints between precast panels, around window and door frames, and in façades
• Sealing and bonding in vehicle bodies, containers, metal and marine work (PU 50 FC)
• Joints that will be painted over

How to apply

1. Joint faces must be clean, dry and free of dust, oil, grease and old sealant. Degrease with solvent on a clean cloth.
2. Primer is not normally needed; on concrete joints use Primer VL and apply the sealant 15 minutes to 3 hours later.
3. Insert a closed-cell polyethylene backer rod so the sealant bonds only to the two sides of the joint.
4. Cut the nozzle at an angle to the joint width, apply in one continuous bead without air pockets, and tool with a dry spatula into a slightly concave finish before it skins.
5. Clean fresh sealant with xylene or white spirit; cured sealant can only be removed mechanically.

FAQ

PU 25 LM or PU 50 FC?
PU 25 LM is soft (Shore A 25) and low modulus, so it follows large movements in concrete expansion joints, façades and precast panels. PU 50 FC is harder (Shore A 50) and cures faster, for hard-wearing joints in vehicle bodies, metal, industrial and marine work.

PU sealant or silicone?
PU sealants can be painted, are tougher and suit concrete and construction joints. Silicone resists heat and UV better and suits glass and sanitary joints, but cannot be painted.

How wide and deep should the joint be?
Between 5 and 40 mm wide. Up to 20 mm make the depth equal to the width; above 20 mm make the width twice the depth. Always use a backer rod.

What do people call it in Lebanon?
Usually ma3joun PU, ma3joune boliurethane or ma3joun fawasel; in Arabic معجون PU or معجونة بوليرتان.

معجون PU أو سيليكون؟
معجون PU بينطلى فوقه، أقوى وبيناسب فواصل الباطون والبناء. السيليكون بيتحمّل الحرارة والشمس أكتر وبيناسب الزجاج والحمامات، بس ما بينطلى.

قديش لازم يكون عرض وعمق الفاصل؟
بين 5 و40 ملم عرض. لحد 20 ملم العمق متل العرض؛ فوق 20 ملم العرض ضعف العمق. دايماً حطّ حبل فوم (باكر رود) تحت المعجون.

شو اسمه بلبنان؟
عادةً معجون PU، معجونة بوليرتان أو معجون فواصل.
